Wal-Mart’s Worst Sales in 28 Years

The world’s most powerful company is in a funk. Wal-Mart said April sales were down 3.5%. Analysts expected a 1.1% drop. It’s not just Wal-Mart though…so watch out. Record gas prices this summer might just bring more havoc, unless of course you’re getting 40 or 55 mpg.

    Their annual report makes it sound like they’re getting leaner and meaner…But they completely pulled out of Germany (Europe’s largest national economy) and S. Korea. Ouch.

    Matt: seems like there are lots of untapped markets in the world for Wal-Mart to experiment with though?

    According to Wal-Mart’s 2006 Annual Report, International accounted for approximately 20.1% of fiscal 2006 sales.

    I wonder what percentage of international new store openings are a result of acquisition.
