I was in Starbucks today and noticed they were now selling now fancy new oatmeal called “perfect oatmeal”…I think it was priced about $2.40 plus a little extra for a topping. I ordered the oatmeal with brown sugar along with a drip coffee. I watched him make the oatmeal because I was curious was made this oatmeal “perfect”. Starbucks has been in trouble lately and is hyping these healthy breakfast options as one way to bounce back. Anyway, I watched the guy at Starbucks grab a packet of what looked like generic oatmeal you can buy for about $0.20 a packet at the grocery store. Then he added some hot water and threw my little bag of brown sugar topping and plastic spoon in a paper bag. This is not exactly my idea of a “perfect oatmeal” experience. My order total was close to 5 bucks for an oatmeal and a drip coffee. A little too much money don’t ya think? Next time I want a packet of very average generic oatmeal I will do what I usually do: pull it out of my cupboard in my kitchen. I suggest you do the same.

sbux is out of hand! The baristas seem to be suffering from a lower than usual tip pool - over the $7/hr and full benefits they already get for 20 hours of work. I like to tip. Sometimes I tip a buck, sometimes the uncounted hunk of change in my pocket, or sometimes just the change I get after the bill. So was the case yesterday when my $2.43 grande americano only produced a 57 cent tip. That’s a full 23% for pressing an instant espresso button and putting some ice in a cup! And they sniffed! Starbucks, check yourself.

Matt, you are more generous than me! I almost never tip at Starbucks. To me it is like tipping at McDonald’s…
