Just Read The Four Hour Workweek Book

July 18th, 2007 · 4 Comments

I finished up reading The Four Hour Workweek book yesterday, and I could barely but the book down! I think I read the entire book within about a 24 hour period. Tim Ferriss, the author of the book, is obviously super intelligent and has figured out what he wants from life. (basically: less work, more life)

4 Hour Workweek

Let me say that this book is not for everyone – it is along the lines of a love-it-or-hate-it type book. BUT – based on the positive reviews I’ve read on Amazon and other places – about 85%+ of people will love it, especially younger people I would guess. Much of the book covers how he built a business manufacturing and selling/distributing nutritional supplements and how he figured out how to outsource just about every function of the business – leaving him tons of time to pursue his real passions in life: martial arts, learning new languages, traveling, etc… Not everyone who reads this book is going to feel the urge to outsource their life to workers in Bangalore and sign up for Tango dancing classes in Argentina or ride their motorcycle across China as Tim did – but, after reading this book it was a great reminder to me to follow my dreams in life and not get too caught up with the “bullshit”. One thing that surprised me about the book was how funny parts of it are – I found myself laughing out loud several times! I think just about anyone who works on the Internet will find this book particularly interesting – since it’s much easier to apply the suggested automation & outsourcing suggestions from the book when you’re running an online business. In any case, there are many “nuggets” of information that anyone could use – like how to spend much, much, less time dealing with insignificant & time-wasting email & how to train your boss (or yourself) to value performance over “face time”. (don’t we all hate face time?) Expect more books from Timothy Ferris – this guy is a very savvy marketer and is building a strong personal brand beginning with this bestselling book.

If you would like a copy of the book – I will mail a brand new copy for free to the 1st person who sends me their name and mailing address (USA address only). Consider it a “thank you” for reading my blog. :)

Update: I decided to send books to the first two people who responded…so unless you bribe me or something somehow, no more requests please.  :)

    Hi,

However ridiculous it may sound, Tim is practical. Haven’t you heard him talking about taking advantages of currency differences and making others work for him?

It is definitely not a bad idea though. The trade-off between time and money, if it works in your favor, why not. As a service provider in the knowledge arena I know I can do wonderful things for the guys who don’t mind paying the fees to free up their time.

    Think about it.

The book is awesome. I’ve read the whole thing three times and have re-read certain parts probably 10-12 times. I fully agree that as a young(er) person, I should not have to work for the next 40 years to enjoy my life.

    Good post.

Hi Brian, thanks for your comments.

I agree. Yes, you should definitely not “have” to work for a solid 40 years if you don’t want to. This (USA) is a free country and if you want to kick ass and make enough money to enjoy plenty of time away from work throughout like, you are free to do so. It’s not about not working hard, it is about working smart and taking time to smell the roses too. :)
