I was trying to hand-write a few addresses on some envelopes today with a pen and found it very difficult to get the words down! (I wasn’t even trying to get crazy and bust out with my cursive, I was just printing.) I have become so accustomed to typing everything on a keyboard or some other electronic doo-dad - that when I try to do anything handwritten it becomes a serious chore. The speed of my handwriting has gone way down compared to even a few years ago…what about you? Even when I take notes on stuff now, I usually do it on my computer…are young kids today still learning how to write in cursive in elementary school, or do they just get a laptop and call it a day?
Is penmanship a lost art?

My writing looks like a 5 year olds writing on a bad day. Yet I move farther and farther away from my attachment to a laptop, and I don’t carry a pda or blackberry anymore. All of my fiction writing happens first in a journal, and notes in meetings scribble into a small meeting notebook I carry. The thing about writing is I don’t do it as unconsciously as typing. Makes me think more about what I write down. More kinetic movement? No refresh rate to mesmerize me?

It is so weird that I have a hard time unconsciously handwriting…typing feels so much more natural now. (and much, much, faster)
