Every so often I stumble across a domain name that is really amazing, yet hardly used at all. Barely any content, no domain parking monetization, nothing. Just a extremely valuable domain with a tiny bit of content. This week I came across two domains, the actual domain names are not really relevant, but I’ll say that both of these domains are 1-word .com domains and probably in the top 1000 most words in the English language. One was four letters, the other was seven. Anyway, I sent both domain owners an email and inquired if they were interested in selling.
I figured they probably receive tons of requests like this, but you never know. These were both 7 figure value domains, and I was hoping I could score one for five figures…if I was really really lucky. One of the owners replied back to me with a web page that listed his asking price: $5,000,000. I haven’t heard back from the other domain owner. I guess I wasn’t lucky this week.
Part of me knows that periodically contacting domain name owners like this is a waste of time, but part of me thinks I just might get lucky someday. Only time will tell? Anyone out there have a success story to share? (please comment if you do)

I can beat that: I had come across a similarly valuable domain, not used, and the owner had set it up as an “auto-bid” meaning all you had to do was bid high enough and you got it.
I did, and I got it!
My guess is they had not been using it, and when they put it up for sale, didn’t think it had much value, and probably forgot about it.
