According to The Tax Foundation, today is tax freedom day!
Americans will work four months of the year, from January 1 to April 30, before they have earned enough money to pay this year’s tax obligations at the federal, state and local levels.
This means that on average, everything you have earned so far this year goes straight to the government. If you are in a higher tax bracket, your freedom day is probably not quite here yet. Here is an interesting chart of tax freedom days for the last 25 years…
